The Trumpeter of Krakow is a 15th-century historical novel about a Ukrainian family forced by the devastation to flee to Krakow, Poland. In Poland, their adventures take us to a mysterious and precious treasure that armies are moving to possess; to a Polish heritage whose hero is a brave and struggling trumpeter who died loyal to his homeland; to images of the Tatar invasion; and other matters of science and alchemy. This novel, which captivates the mind with its interesting facts and enjoyable adventures, gives the reader a clear picture of Krakow's glory and civilization at that time. The novel was written by Eric Philbrook Kelly, an American journalist and author who specialized in literature and novels. Amazingly, he wrote this story while he was working as a professor at the University of Krakow. It is his first novel, and the novel won the Newbery Award in 1929.
About the author: Eric Kelly, Professor of English at Dartmouth College and Lecturer at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, won the Newbery Medal for literary excellence for his book *The Trumpeter of Krakow*.
About the translator: Amani Al-Husawi, an applied linguist, translates literature and the humanities.
