Explanation of the Prophet's Characteristics by Al-Tirmidhi

Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds. May God’s prayers and peace be upon the one sent as a mercy to the worlds, our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family, companions, and followers until the Day of Judgment.

Now then;

It is known that the definition of the Sunnah and Hadith of the Messenger of God, according to the hadith scholars, is: “What is attributed to the Prophet of God, of sayings, actions, approvals, or descriptions of his nature or character.” This definition includes everything that is authentically reported from the Companions of the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, explaining his beautiful moral qualities with which God created him, and his great moral qualities with which God enabled him to acquire them.

These beautiful qualities and great morals are scattered throughout the collections of the Sunnah, including the Sahihs, Sunans, Musnads, and others. They are also included individually in special books, the most famous of which is the book “Al-Shama’il” by Imam Al-Tirmidhi, the author of “Al-Jami’” who died in the year 279 AH, may God be pleased with him. It was a great and important reference in its subject, and many of those who were engaged in Hadith, in the past and present, paid much attention to it. God has granted success to the dear son Abd Al-Razzaq - may God perpetuate his success and make him happy in this world and the hereafter - to explain this precious book and clarify its meanings. I have looked at parts of it and found it to be a useful explanation. I advise students of knowledge to read this book, explain it, and benefit from it in terms of knowledge.

And morals

The benefit of knowing his moral attributes is knowing his radiant countenance and his luminous face, and distinguishing in dreams between the truthful dream that matches what was proven from his companions, which Satan does not imitate, and the false dream. As for the benefit of knowing his moral attributes, it is knowing the noble morals with which Allah honored him, for which He praised him in His saying: {And indeed, you are of a great moral character} [Al-Qalam], and working to adopt these morals by imitating him, as Allah the Most High said: {Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have a good example to follow for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and who remembers Allah often} [Al-Ahzab].

It is his right over his nation that tongues be moist with praise of him in all that befits him, while being careful to avoid extremism that is not approved by God or His Messenger, and with praise of his Sunnah, clarifying its merits, and explaining the necessity for people to adhere to it, and that tongues be moist with prayers and peace upon him, may God bless him and grant him peace.

I ask Allah to guide everyone to what pleases Him, and to guide students of knowledge to engage in the Qur’an and Sunnah and the path of the early Muslims, and to act in accordance with that so that they may attain happiness in this world and the hereafter. May God’s prayers and peace be upon His servant and messenger, our Prophet Muhammad, and upon all of his family and companions.
