Attributes of God Almighty

The book in our hands is an encyclopedia that includes the attributes of God Almighty that were mentioned in the Book of God and the Sunnah of His Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace. Despite the many books that have devoted mention, enumeration, and explanation to the names of God Almighty, there is no book that has devoted mention and enumeration to the attributes according to the belief of the people of the Sunnah and the Community.

The author began the book with four chapters: the first of these chapters dealt with the difference between the attribute, description, epithet, and noun. This was followed by a second chapter in which the author reviewed twenty-one general rules of attributes. As for the types of attributes, he devoted a discussion to them in a third chapter. After that, the author came to a fourth chapter in which he dealt with a group of the fruits reaped from belief in the attributes of Allah, the Blessed and Exalted. He then began with the collected attributes, which he arranged alphabetically, and mentioned their evidence from the Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah, and from the words of the early Muslims. The author stipulated that he would only include in this book what was authentic from the hadiths, and that he would be satisfied with what was narrated in the two Sahihs or one of them that proves the attribute. If he did not find any, he would include one or more hadiths from elsewhere. He also stipulated that he would only prove the attributes that were proven by the early Muslims unless their evidence is clearly indicative.

He has enumerated all the intrinsic attributes, whether they are informative, auditory, or rational. He has also enumerated all the attributes derived from the intrinsic and actual names of God, and all the verbal and actual attributes, and some of the auditory attributes. He has mentioned what is not an attribute but can be used to describe God, and what is not an attribute but can be used to describe God after detailing it, and what has been proven to be attributed to God Almighty, and some of them thought that it was an attribute added to a described. He has also clarified some of the issues over which there has been disagreement since ancient times.

It remains for us to note that the author has added a number of attributes in this edition, such as the attribute of seeing, turning away, helping, and others. He also added some of what some scholars consider to be attributes, but they are not, even though some of them can be reported about God. He also re-authenticated all the hadiths in the book.

The book is an encyclopedia that contains nearly 250 attributes of God Almighty that are mentioned in the Qur’an and Sunnah.
