Grimm's Fairy Tales

When the name of the Brothers Grimm is mentioned, the collection "Children's and Household Tales" comes to mind, which for almost two centuries has been an important source of enjoyment for both children and adults, not only in the German-speaking geographical region but in most parts of the world, through numerous successive translations and editions, including various translations into Arabic. Most of these tales have a moral and educational character, conveying their lesson through exaggerated depictions of characters, events, and actions. They revolve around the poles of good and evil that dominate human life and guide its destiny from birth to death. Although these tales are directed at children, they do not underestimate or trivialise evil; rather, they portray it as formidable, ugly, defiant, and powerful. However, if good confronts it with courage, intelligence, and cooperation, it is capable of achieving victory. Often, nature intervenes at a moment to secure victory and inflict terrible and horrifying punishments on the forces of evil, in terms of their impact on the listener's or reader's imagination. The interpretation of this extreme exaggeration in depicting the punishment of evil—whether it be human or animal—is that it serves to deter and prevent the commission of evil deeds, while the victorious forces of good appear to bask in happiness and contentment after their ordeal.
