The chief sheikh, this is how the author of this book was titled. He was a philosopher who conveyed Plato's philosophy to the Arabs, like Al-Farabi, and Al-Ghazali debated him on this matter. He was a physician whom doctors still today acknowledge as a pioneer and leader, so much so that his books are considered worthy of their attention, and some exclusively possess his manuscripts from the world of science. This book is one of his most famous works; it is mentioned that it contained the minimum essentials for a physician in five books: The first - on general matters in medical science, the second - on single drugs, the third - on specific diseases affecting human organs, organ by organ, from head to foot, the fourth - on specific diseases that occur not confined to an organ, and on cosmetics, i.e., hair and skin, the fifth - on the composition of drugs. The editor compared Arabic terms with non-Arabic ones.
