In this book, the Turkish researcher Savaş Ş. Barkçin attempts, in a simplified style, to discover the meanings of the maqams and their spiritual worlds without viewing music as mere entertainment, but rather as a tool for self-knowledge and essence. He explains the basic concepts of Eastern music: the note, the maqam, and the origins, by selecting forty maqams out of one hundred and nineteen, known today, and explaining their meanings, characteristics, and deep connotations.
