A love story, a quest, an ode to books and the libraries they contain, The City and Its Mysterious Walls is a tale of these strange times.
Enter the city...
When a young man's girlfriend mysteriously disappears, he sets his heart on finding the imaginary city where the real her lives. His search will lead him to a job at a remote library with secrets of its own. When he finally arrives at the Walled City, a shadowless place of horned beasts and willow trees, he finds his beloved working at a different library—the Library of Dreams. But she has no memory of their life together in the other world, and as the lines between reality and fantasy begin to blur, he must decide what he is willing to lose. A love story, a quest, and an ode to books and the libraries that house them, "The City and Its Uncertain Walls" is a parable for these strange times. “A love letter to books, libraries and librarians” Financial Times, Books of the Year “A tribute to Haruki Murakami” “The world's most famous cult novelist” The Guardian “Wild and thrilling... Murakami is a master storyteller and knows how to keep us hooked” - Sunday Times “A deeply gripping book” - Daily Express “It's safe to say there's no one like Murakami” - Literary Review “No other author blends domestic, fantastical and mystical elements into such strange and bewitching shades” - Financial Times
