In 2011, a young wolf named Slavik set out from Slovenia. Tracked by GPS, he traveled a thousand miles through the Alps, arriving four months later on the Licinian Plateau, north of Verona. There had been no wolves in northern Italy for a century, but here he met a she-wolf out for a walk. A decade later, more than 100 wolves have returned to the region, a result of their special encounter.
