Mamdouh Haddad is a forbidden writer searching for a motive to write, after the regime adopted reforms that allowed freedom of expression. The censor, however, follows Haddad's articles and reads his novel, attempting to uncover his true identity.
It is a tale of pervasive censorship that shapes the political, social, and emotional consciousness of the individual, making those who oppose the regime feel remorse for what they missed during their years of resisting the mechanisms of surveillance, control, and dominance. It also addresses the themes of remorse and schizophrenia, in two parallel paths of construction and deconstruction for the character, the writer, the censor, and Mr. Screw, or Mamdouh Haddad.
