This book explores the experience of family separation from an emotional, psychological, and human perspective. It does not present it as merely a tale of sorrow, but rather as an attempt to understand the roots of pain and to confront it. The book employs a simple yet profound language that resonates with the reader without being preachy, seeking to extend a hand inward to quiet the confused voice that is a product of such experiences. The book combines contemplation on the emotions experienced by children during and after separation with how relationships subsequently form, especially the relationship between an individual and themselves. It also highlights the idea of recovery, and the book does not merely narrate pain but offers pathways for dealing with it, encouraging the reader to understand their own story, to learn more about their shadow through Mrs. Shin's experience, and to reconcile with their beginnings instead of escaping them. It is as if the book approaches the reader as a friend, not as a guide or an instructional discourse. The book does not stop at storytelling alone; it also includes a special gift carefully prepared by the author: a simple yet profound plan to help the reader accompany themselves step by step on a journey of understanding and recovery.
