Real change won't come to you while you're stuck in a state of surrender, shackled by your fear, weakness, and hesitation. Real change won't come to you while you're self-programmed into a "waiting" state; waiting for someone who hurt you to decide to stop hurting you. Waiting for someone to deny your kindness and sacrifices, for a day to come when they will feel grateful and appreciated. Waiting for someone who will kill you with disregard and neglect, for someone to bestow upon you a sympathetic look or a loving word. In the end, what do you gain from waiting other than regret and remorse? Real change comes from within. This is what God promised us in His Holy Book: "Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves." [Al-Ra'd: 11] Have you ever thought about what motivates people to do what they do? Is it the desire for money, power, or sex, as some believe? The answer goes deeper than that. Close observation and research throughout history show us that the driving force behind our behavior is the desire to satisfy certain basic human needs. That is, humans are driven to do things by a desire to satisfy their intrinsic needs. These needs are not "wants," but "needs" that we all have simply by being human—they are existential needs (they arise from the condition of being human).
