The Opportunity and Other Things

In moments, the present fades away, disappearing into the background, and the past, with all its treasures, overwhelms me. I watch a documentary brimming with images, movement, and the pulse of life. Many are the reasons that motivate and summon it to sweep me away, transporting me from the present world I inhabit to a distant past to relive, and see it clearly; I experience its details, and move between its different scenes. A past that isn't all beautiful, some of which renews sorrows. I try hard to ignore it and transcend its reality and events. I may succeed, but its repercussions continue to flow through every cell of my mind, and then sadness looms over me, and melancholy overtakes me. Is it nostalgia for the past that drives me to return to those stations in my life? Perhaps I linger for a long time on some of them, and even if they are only moments old, they are radiant and clear, while others are dull and don't attract my attention, so I quickly move past them.
