This novel tells the story of the author's childhood. "Ashab" is the child victim, who suffers injustice from those closest to him. They consider him stupid, so he submits because he doesn't want to disappoint them, fearing their reactions. This leads to the final chapters of the novel, in which the author innovates, introducing Ashab's rebellion in a chapter titled "The Leaf Storm," which serves as a prelude to the word "no" that Ashab finally utters, shaking the family hierarchy and revealing an intimate collusion between him and his father, and a degree of love, veiled in cruelty, that was hidden behind the father's sullen, ever-traveling personality.
