للألم عتبة. وللجنون عتبة. للحبّ وللأوطان عتبة. وللسعد عتبة. ألا يؤمن المصريون بـ«تغيير العتبة» للتخلّص من سوء الحظّ والتعاسة؟ العتبة... شاسع هو ذلك الحاجز الذي يفصل بين عالمين، وثقيلة تلك الخطوة اللازمة لاجتيازه.تلملم لور خطاها، تعضّ على الألم وتنتصب كالرمح، كما فعلت طوال السنوات الأربع الماضية. خطوة واحدة وينتهي كلّ شيء. الحياة هنا باتت مستحيلة...ماذا ستحمل معها؟ تلك الورقة التي خطّت عليها مانيا اسمها للمرّة الأولى؟ كلّ المرّات التي ضحك فيها كريم؟ أتخبّئ بين مسامّ جلدها رائحة ياسمين دمشق؟ ومذاق الخبز الذي لا تشبع من غيره، كيف تحفظه؟ ستترك حتماً خلفها مشاحناتها الأخيرة مع أنس وأدوية قميئة بدأت تتعاطاها منذ فترة. ستترك صور أطفال نائمين لن يستيقظوا، وبيوتاً لم يبقَ فيها حجر على حجر. ستترك وحشة حياة لم تعد كما كانت، وستمضي. ليس عليها سوى اجتياز العتبة. فقط اجتياز العتبة. For pain, there is a threshold. For madness, there is a threshold. For love and homelands, too, there is a threshold. And for happiness, there is a threshold. Do Egyptians not believe in the power of "changing the threshold" to free themselves from misfortune and misery? The threshold is like a vast barrier that separates two worlds, and it demands a heavy step to traverse it.
