There is no doubt that thought, when it reaches its peak, transforms into metaphysics. Metaphysics is the title of bold thought that may recklessly fall into the depths of misleading fog. But it soon rises to realize that all knowledge is incomplete, all endeavor is impotent, and that ever-vibrant thought never ceases to take steps toward filling its deepest existential deficiency. Metaphysics is the spirit of thought, freed from the bonds of superficial observation. However, it cannot transform into a science. Its only benefit is that, in drawing for us the boundaries of the world, consciousness, and knowledge, it liberates us from all harmful ideological dogmatism, from all harmful emotional fanaticism, and from all disabling intellectual alienation. Philosophy needs metaphysics to constantly remember that its conceptions, constructions, architectures, and systems, no matter how lofty and brilliant, cannot grasp the secret of being. No knowledge can, in and of itself, justify absolute epistemological foundations. It is no surprise, therefore, that metaphysics today takes the form of predictive sciences, qualitative logic, and foundational epistemology.
