Can a small piece of news in the morning paper destroy an entire life?
Can certainty turn into doubt, tranquility into a storm, and stability into a question without an answer?
This is what happens to Iman, who lives a peaceful life with her husband, lacking nothing…
Until her eyes fell upon the news of the martyrdom of the Egyptian doctor Omar Al-Mahdi, while he was performing surgery on a Palestinian girl in one of the hospitals in Gaza.
In a single moment, the past you thought was over returns.
It emerges from its bottle like a mighty genie, to reassert its control over the present and reshape the reality around it, not leaving it as it was.
In “The Eighth Heaven,” Mohamed Salmawy, with the profound insight of a writer who is an expert on the human psyche, observes the transformation of man when he is forced to confront himself, and when the fragility of the life we have built on a long illusion is revealed.
A novel about the tragedy of Gaza, about the blood that never stays away, about the falseness of a reality that can no longer be tolerated, and about the moment of rebellion that imposes itself when silence is no longer an option.
