He urged people to understand it, saying: {Do they not then reflect upon the Qur’an, or are there locks upon their hearts?} And He obligated scholars to uncover its meanings, interpret it, seek it from its sources, learn it, and teach it. Allah, the Almighty, said: {And remember when Allah took a covenant from those who were given the Scripture, "You shall make it clear to the people and not conceal it."}
Sheikh Al-Islam Ahmad ibn Abd Al-Halim ibn Abd Al-Salam Ibn Taymiyyah, may God have mercy on him, laid down comprehensive rules that help in understanding the Holy Qur’an and knowing its interpretation and meanings. These are known as “Introduction to the Principles of Interpretation.” Because of their importance, I have verified them in four handwritten copies, so that they appear as their author, may God have mercy on him, laid them out.
