About the Book: Fans of Professor Irvin Yalom's work will welcome this book, written long ago with Jenny Elkin, a pseudonym for a patient with aphasia whom Dr. Yalom decided to treat, along with several other psychological disorders. It is the first book of its kind in which a therapist and his patient share their reflections and impressions of the sessions they conducted.
Jenny Elkin was a gifted young writer, who suffered from a psychological disorder, described by the psychiatrist as "schizophrenic." After undergoing many different treatments, Dr. Yalom of Stanford University decided to conduct individual therapy sessions with her. They agreed that each of them would write separate, detailed notes and reports after each session. The result of this agreement was this book (Every Day a Little Closer), in which they alternately recount their impressions and feelings about their therapeutic relationship. It is a unique experience narrated by both the therapist and his patient, each from their own perspective.
