When the deviant desires and perverted ideas appeared, the century of division began to appear and discord spread. The further people were from the era of prophethood and the caliphate, the more the desires became apparent and established. There is no time that comes except that the one after it is worse than it. After that, the people divided into many and diverse sects, each sect following its own approach in beliefs, methods and behavior. It was satisfied with that method and that behavior, and misled the other sects that differed from it. And what our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had foretold came to pass, that this nation “will split into seventy-three sects, all of them in Hellfire except one; which is the Jama’ah.” When this division and disagreement arose and desires multiplied, the scholars began to warn the Muslims against these sects and these desires, explaining to them their misguidance and deviations, and ordering them to adhere to the Jama’ah of the Muslims, Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama’ah. They compiled specific and general works on this subject, and among these beneficial and valuable works is the book “Al-Farq Bayn al-Firaq” (The Difference Between the Firaqs) by Imam Abdul-Qahir ibn Tahir al-Baghdadi. This book is one of the best and most comprehensive books written on explaining the sects and their beliefs. It is a comprehensive and beneficial book. Everyone who came after him and wrote on this subject drew from this book and took from it. Since the book has this status and stature, we wanted to offer it some service and attention, as a contribution from us to disseminating the books of our venerable scholars.
