The author, may God have mercy on him, said: “When I was assigned to teach the science of diacritics to students in the specialization department at the Institute of Qur’anic Recitations at Al-Azhar, and I saw the dire need of these students for a book on this art that would be appropriate to their understanding and intellects, I wrote for them this book, which is easy to grasp, accessible, clear in style, and organized in its divisions. In this book (Guidance for Students to the History of the Qur’an and the Sciences of the Clear Qur’an), I have committed myself to mentioning, after explaining the rules in each chapter, what indicates and draws attention to them from the system that was established in the art of diacritics by the distinguished professor Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Umawi al-Sharishi, known as al-Kharraz. He appended it to the book he composed on the science of calligraphy, entitled: “The Source of the Thirsty in the Calligraphy of the Qur’an.”
