Tafsir al-Shaarawy, or Khawatir al-Shaarawy, is the interpretation or thoughts of Sheikh Muhammad Metwally al-Shaarawy about the Holy Quran. It is the most famous book of modern tafsir, and some place it among the books that renew the religion, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said in the authentic hadith: "Indeed, Allah sends at the beginning of every century someone who will renew for this nation the religion." The tafsir spread through written, audio, and visual media, and relied on its author's unique linguistic and jurisprudential abilities in interpreting the Holy Quran, which were attested to by scholars of his time during his lifetime and after his death. He exploited the potential of language to understand the Quranic text and communicate it to people in a modern style that was unique to him and not to any other scholar. Sheikh al-Shaarawy's tafsir was influential in that it brought understanding of the Quranic text to all levels of human minds and understandings, regardless of their diversity and orientations, so that its meaning and significance could be grasped. Therefore, it was admired by the masses of highly and moderately educated people, as well as the general public, who represent a large proportion of the Islamic world.
