Lady Anne Blunt's book is considered one of the most prominent travel accounts of the nineteenth century, documenting her journey with her husband, Wilfrid Blunt, to Najd during 1878-1879. The stated goal was to purchase purebred Arabian horses, while the journey, in essence, revealed a vivid and detailed picture of Arab society at that time in the regions of Syria, Jordan, and the Arabian Peninsula, especially in Najd, and in the Emirate of Al-Jawf and the Emirate of Diriyah. Furthermore, it accurately described lifestyles, tribal structures, social relations, and the daily lives of men and women.
Dr. Ahmed Awaidi Al-Abbadi's translation is accompanied by valuable corrections and analytical insights that clarify geographical routes, unpack historical and political backgrounds, and connect the scenes of the journey with the broader cultural context of the Arab East.
