The Alchemist

The novel tells the story of the Andalusian shepherd, Santiago, who set out in search of his dream: a buried treasure near the Egyptian pyramids. His journey began in Spain when he met King Melchizedek, who told him about the treasure. He crossed the Strait of Gibraltar, passing through Morocco, until he reached Egypt, facing supernatural signs throughout the journey. On his way to find his dream treasure, many events occur, each of which becomes an obstacle that almost prevents him from continuing his journey, until he finds the means to overcome this obstacle. He is robbed twice, works in a crystal shop, accompanies an Englishman (who wants to become an alchemist), searches for his personal legend, witnesses wars raging between tribes, until he meets the Alchemist, the knower of great secrets, who urges him to continue toward his treasure. At the same time, he meets his great love, Fatima, and a conflict rages within him between staying by his beloved's side and continuing the search for his treasure. Fatima advises him to pursue his dream and promises to wait for him in the desert. During these events, the bond between this shepherd and the universe grows stronger, until he becomes fluent in the language of the universe and understands its signs. The novel reaches its climax when a desert tribe captures Santiago and the alchemist's companion, putting Santiago's relationship with the universe to the test. He passes the test and escapes death. The two men then continue their journey until he finally reaches the pyramids alone, only to discover that what awaits him is another sign to reach his treasure.
