Diwan of Layla Al-Akhyaliya

Author's name: Laila Al-Akhiliya

Layla Al-Akhiliya is a prominent poet of the Umayyad era… an eloquent woman who visited the caliphs and governors of that era, representing her people… The story of her love for Tawbah in her youth and her love for him was famous among the Arabs. Her father refused to marry her to him, and it was said that he was a man of pre-Islamic heritage who raided tribes and stole their camels, and he was killed in one of his raids… Therefore, most of her poetry revolves around praising him, mourning him, and satirizing his haters… The governors she visited would seek to hear news of her and some of her poetry… She was quick-witted, articulate, and self-confident, and her answers were silencing… She argued with the poet Nabigha Al-Ja’di…

What I liked about her saying:
No one alive, even if he lives in peace, is more eternal than he who is hidden in the graves.
And whoever is impatient with what happens in life... will inevitably be seen one day to be patient.
Every youth or new thing will wear out... and every person will one day return to God.
Every companion is familiar, only to be separated… even if the relationship is long and difficult

The advantage of this collection is that it collects her news from books of literature and biographies, and this is what I liked most about it, despite the frequent repetition:
Al-Hajjaj said: May God bless you, Layla! Was there ever any suspicion between you? She said: No, by the One I ask to set you right, except that he once said something, and I thought that he had submitted to some of the matter, so I said:
And if someone has a need, we say to him: Do not reveal it, for there is no way to it as long as I live.
We have a friend whom we should not betray... and you are free and a friend to another
He never said anything to me after that until death separated us.
He said: What was your conversation after that? She said: It was not long before he said to a friend of his: When you come to the people of Banu Ubadah who are here, say in a loud voice:
May God forgive her. Shall I spend a night... in this life without her imagination creeping into my mind?
When I heard the voice, I went out and said:
May God forgive him and set his affairs right... For we are grieving a need that he cannot attain.
Then he was killed shortly after.
