Berosus, the bearer of Babylonian thought to the world

Author's name: Hussein Al-Hindawi

The exceptional scientific standing of the Iraqi-Babylonian historian, astronomer, and mathematician, known in the West by his Latin name Berossus, and in Arabic by Barousha, stems from his development of an innovative theory to explain the various phases of the moon as it orbits the sun. This theory was widely acknowledged by Greek astronomers to develop calendars for calculating the movement of days and months, and also, and especially, from his invention of what we call “comprehensive chronology,” meaning a method for grouping all historical events according to the sequence of their occurrence in actual “historical time.” This allows for the division of this historical time into regularly successive periods, while accurately identifying the events of each one and their impact on the course of world history as a whole.
