A semi-autobiographical novel by American author Philip Kindred Dick, published in 1977. Set in the future, in June 1994, it offers a wide-ranging portrait of drug culture and drug abuse. One of Dick's most famous works, it was adapted into a 2006 film by Richard Linklater. In this novel, the author expresses his sorrow for those who choose the path of addiction, not accusing fate, but rather the conscious decision they made despite their foreknowledge of its consequences—a decision that can turn a person's life upside down and, at some point, end it.
