Ghassan Kanafani, the author of this novel, represents a unique model of a political writer, novelist, short story writer, and critic. He was creative in his writings, just as he was creative in his life, struggle, and martyrdom. In 1966, he received the Friends of the Book Award in Lebanon for "best novel for his novel" "All That's Left to You." He also received the International Organization of Journalists (I.O.J) Award in 1974 and the "Lotus" Award granted by the Afro-Asian Writers' Union in 1975. His novel "Men in the Sun," published in Beirut in 1963, is considered one of the earliest Palestinian novels to address displacement, death, and confusion. In it, he tells the story of three Palestinians from different generations who converge on the necessity of finding an individual solution to the Palestinian's living problem by escaping to Kuwait, where there is oil and wealth. Abu Qais, the old man who dreams of building a room somewhere outside the camp; As'ad, the young man who dreams of Kuwaiti dinars and a new life; and Marwan, the young boy who tries to overcome his living tragedy, as his brother in Kuwait left them without a provider because he got married, and his father left his mother to marry a woman who owns a house. Therefore, he must support the family and decides to reach Kuwait.
In his novel, Ghassan Kanafani condemns all parties that caused the Nakba of Palestine: the incompetent leaders, the treacherous leaders, the submissive people, and those
who abandoned their land to seek their own salvation.
