Some historians believe that the roots of Western civilization owe only to the Greeks, Romans, and the Renaissance, thus ignoring any contributions of Arab-Islamic civilization to shaping the course of human progress!
But can we ignore and not acknowledge the achievements of prominent figures such as Ibn Khaldun, considered the pioneer of sociology; Ibn Sina, who made significant contributions to the field of medicine; and Al-Khwarizmi, who founded algebra and logarithms? What about Ibn al-Nafis, the discoverer of the pulmonary circulation; Ali al-Mawsili, who developed surgical techniques for removing cataracts; al-Idrisi, who drew accurate maps of the world; and al-Biruni, the renowned astronomer and mathematician? Not to mention Ibn Rushd, al-Farabi, Omar Khayyam, and others who left indelible marks on the path of science and thought, leaving a legacy whose impact continues to this day?
Despite the presence of misinterpretations and false biases in some academic circles that describe the Arab-Islamic heritage as either devoid of rationalism or associated with extremist tendencies, historical facts clearly demonstrate that Arab-Islamic civilization experienced a golden age, a beacon of knowledge and creativity, and profoundly contributed to enriching human thought and shaping the course of global civilization. This book seeks to review these contributions and explore their profound impact on the paths of science and knowledge.
