In his novel “A Step into a Dream,” Ismail Fahd Ismail resorted to direct internal monologue, in addition to the first-person speaker, which helped him transition from one scene to another. He also pushed the unity of place to disappear behind the unity of time. (Hamid Al-Mazen, Al-Watan Kuwaiti newspaper 1981) It occurred to me that if I wanted to critically delve into Ismail Fahd Ismail’s works, it would be under the title: “The Rupture of Association.” Perhaps my reading of his novel “A Step into a Dream” sparked a similar title in my mind.
