Silvia Iparraguirre surprised critics when she published Tierra del Fuego in 1999, sparking a storm of admiration in the local press for the beauty of the story and the power of its poetic language, leading her to be dubbed “Borges’ disciple.” Twenty years after its publication, Tierra del Fuego continues to receive international acclaim from publications such as Der Spiegel, The Texas Observer, Le Monde, and The Guardian. In 1999, Tierra del Fuego was named “Book of the Year” at the Buenos Aires Book Fair. That same year, it won the prestigious Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize. Recently, The Guardian ranked it among the ten best novels about Latin America.
