Before my husband's tragic death—I might even say that even before the shadow of death loomed over him—he had planned to publish three volumes of short stories, this series being one of them. I have added to the original list of stories for this book an unpublished Dracula story, originally prevented from publication because of its length. Perhaps this will be of interest to many readers, enabling them to become acquainted with my husband's most remarkable work. The other stories have already been published in English and American periodicals. This work was completed in his early years, and had he lived longer, he would have seen fit to revise and revise it—that is the way writers are.
