Jules Verne is arguably one of the pioneers of science fiction of his time, and he is also considered one of those who predicted many unprecedented scientific victories. Since 1979, Verne has been the second most translated author in the world.
Few people have not read a novel or watched a film inspired by one of his timeless masterpieces. In 1863, a literary series known as "Extraordinary Journeys" began to appear. Its most important feature was that it predicted the most important scientific discoveries and achievements witnessed by the world in the twentieth century, such as the landing on the moon and the exploration of the depths of the oceans. The book in our hands falls under the category of science fiction and was first published in French in 1872. The first story talks about a simple town whose people are unaware of all kinds of hatred and evil. The writer discusses the most basic moral principles that any scientist should possess, which is the opposite of what we see in the story, where one of them sought to sacrifice his most precious and valuable things in order to achieve his desired goal. The town's residents are characterized by kindness, calm, and extreme slowness, as no quarrel had broken out within its borders for three centuries. However, they fell victim to the ambition of a mad scientist who claimed that he would invent an invention that would greatly benefit them.
The second story highlights the value and importance of science, which frees one from the shackles of ignorance and superstition. However, when one is afflicted with the pride of science, they quickly become swept away by their destructive fantasies and convictions. Mr. Zachary delusions that he is the sole controller of time and the revealer of the mysterious relationship between the soul and the body.
