In the dead of night, madness lurks. Emma can't sleep. She checks that the windows are closed, locks the doors, makes sure the children are safe. What's happening to her? Why can't she sleep? Emma Burnett is a skilled lawyer, haunted by childhood trauma related to her mother's madness and her attempt to murder her sister, as well as her mother's strange prophecy about her turning forty. Emma tries to keep her successful life separate from her past, so she constantly hides her childhood trauma. Then insomnia strikes, and her days are punctuated by gaps in time during which she doesn't know what she did. Adding to this, she begins to experience the first symptoms that her mother exhibited in the past. Is madness running through her veins?
