Isaac Deutscher published "Stalin: A Political Biography" in 1949, a seminal and unique work in the field of biography, revealing Stalin's life and work throughout his lifetime. Like all distinguished biographies, the book offers excellent coverage of the history of the Russian Empire and later the Soviet Union during Stalin's rule, extending beyond political affairs to encompass the cultural, economic, and diplomatic spheres. The book sparked considerable controversy upon its initial publication, as Deutscher reveals how later Soviet propagandists distorted certain facts about Stalin's early life to present a different image than that recorded by historians. Now, twenty years after the publication of this Arabic translation, we present this book to the contemporary reader, written by the eminent thinker Fawaz Traboulsi.
