"The Water Carrier Died" is the iconic, timeless novel by the great writer Youssef El Sebaei, considered one of the masterpieces of the Arabic novel in general. The novel's events take place within a symbolic framework around the issue of death, as the protagonist, Shousha the Water Carrier, attempts to escape the memory of his wife's passing through the paths of life, until he meets a person who is the complete opposite of him, and saves him from being beaten in a restaurant. Their relationship strengthens and he invites him to live in his home with his mother-in-law and son, Sayed. Soon, Shousha's life changes when he learns about this person's profession, and he abandons his job as a water carrier to work for him.
