One of the most important literary creations of the twentieth century, the novel's basic idea revolves around human alienation - wherever they may be - within a complex and intertwined society, where all affairs are controlled by a tyrannical, mysterious, brutal, and authoritarian force, before which modern man feels helpless, powerless, and lacking in freedom and security. The hero of The Castle is Kafka himself, symbolized by the first letter of his name (K), an alienated citizen, whether within the framework of his family circle or the broader circles of society. This is the same idea that Kafka addressed in his other works, such as "The Trial" and "The Metamorphosis." Kafka, the lawyer, is in reality a bank employee in "The Trial," a sales representative in "The Metamorphosis," and a surveyor in "The Castle."
