The Dodok Exile

Her family came to Egypt at the beginning of the 20th century, fleeing the Armenian massacres. When the white cloud of despair descended upon them, she felt compelled to tell their story, to recount how their roots, torn from their land and forced to flee in an attempt to eradicate them, had instead created life from death. They took root in the new land they settled in, to renew themselves, to live, to grow, to branch out, and to spread their shade across the land. It is a tale spanning four generations, over a hundred years, of a family who inherited pain and sorrow wherever they went. Their story would never have begun had they not left their homeland, and it would never have been told had they not decided to speak out about everything that had happened, both their rights and their burdens.
