The first Arabic translation of The Great God Pan is a classic horror novel by Arthur Macken, a blend of myth, legend, and science. Lovecraft followed Macken's lead in his writing, and he expressed his admiration for the novel on more than one occasion, saying, "No one can describe the endless suspense and absolute terror found in every paragraph of the book." Macken's influence and his novel were not limited to Lovecraft alone. Many horror writers have tried to emulate Macken and his novel, including one of the greatest contemporary horror writers, Stephen King, who said it was the best novel ever written in English-language horror literature, and that this novel deprived him of sleep for many nights. He also said that Macken's novel had an influence on many of his works, such as Revival, which was published in 2014.
