Ibn Arabi's book, "Ahkam al-Qur'an" (The Rulings of the Qur'an), is considered one of the most important books that reveals the secrets of the Qur'an and the sources of its rulings. In it, the author presents the verses of rulings arranged according to their occurrence in the chapters, and he comments on each verse with the rulings that can be derived from it.

In the following passage, he clarifies his methodology, saying: "We mention the verse, then we examine its words, even its letters, understanding it individually. Then we connect it to related verses, preserving the principles of rhetoric, avoiding contradictions and inconsistencies in rulings, and being careful regarding language. We compare it in the Quran with what is found in the authentic Sunnah, striving to find the correct interpretation for all, since all is from God. Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was sent to explain to people what was revealed to them. We follow this with related matters that must be understood, ensuring that the statement stands alone, unless it deviates from the topic, in which case we refer to it in its proper place, avoiding both brevity and excess. We seek guidance from God's will, for whoever God guides is truly guided; there is no Lord besides Him."
