Why science?

Science is not merely the acquisition of scientific information or the mental possession of knowledge and material possession of technology. Rather, the science that now represents the spirit of our age is a methodology for understanding and studying reality based on critical thinking, with the aim of experimental intervention for change. Science here comprises systematic knowledge structures; it is a socio-cultural phenomenon, a unified system of knowledge integrated with the structure and activities of society. It is not a collection of disparate pieces of knowledge, but a methodology employed in service of the social structure, working to strengthen its cohesion and ensure its continued progress, confronting its challenges and shaping its future. Therefore, it is a social institution and a civilizational element. Science is a tool for self-realization through cultural, economic, and political awareness, and a tool for self-defense, guaranteeing security and victory in the struggle for existence. We must recognize that a culture of science can only arise and prevail to represent a general climate in a society that produces science, a society that is a homeland for science. Thus, a culture of science becomes a supporting and motivating factor towards further achievement and greater enjoyment of life, in terms of understanding life's phenomena and the principles of managing life.
