Science and the Invisible World

This book attempts to shed light on a world that lies beyond what physics can describe. Eddington, as is his custom, starts from scientific premises, questioning whether scientific methodologies are capable of explaining that unseen world or at least initiating a methodology capable of uncovering the secrets of that unseen world. However, he begins, as is his custom, from his physical knowledge and, using it and his scientific method, tries to fathom the depths of that hidden realm. Eddington, the famous astronomer, mathematician, and physicist, was the first to prove Einstein's general theory of relativity and the first to write about it in English. Einstein himself praised him, saying that what he wrote was the most accurate account of relativity written in any language. He contributed to the development of non-Euclidean geometry, which greatly helped in providing a geometry suitable for understanding the world in light of the theory of relativity itself. He did not stop there, but also had many of his own studies on the origin, evolution, movement, and composition of stars, and was one of the first enthusiasts of quantum theory. Thus, in this book, we see one of the twentieth century's most brilliant scientific minds approaching the matter of that hidden realm and his perspective on it, a vision that takes us on a journey between the shores of science, philosophy, and religion and fills souls with inspiration.
