“To my mother, my sisters, and my comrades, This is not a good way, and I do not recommend it to anyone, but there is no other way.” With these words, the Russian poet Vladimir Mayakovsky wrote his last words to this world, and they are perhaps one of the most sincere letters written by a human being on the face of the earth. The suicide knows that this method will not solve his problems, but despite all of that, he pushed himself to it and threw himself into the abyss of suicide. Perhaps one of the factors of the “attraction” of suicide letters is that we find ourselves at some point sharing the same feelings with the suicides, and this is evident when we read their letters. Who among us can deny that Van Gogh’s last message: “Sadness will last forever” touched him from within whenever he read it? And who among us, whenever he reads Dalida’s letter: “Forgive me. Life is no longer bearable.” A painful thought came to him, prompting him to repeat the same sentence: “Life is really no longer bearable.” In this book, we read together eight suicide letters, roaming between the lives of people and their letters, not only for literary exploration, but also to learn from mistakes, learn from their experiences, and benefit from the letters written by the deceased before their unfortunate decision to leave this life.
