Abu Zayd al-Qayrawani's treatise is an important and significant work on the branches of the Maliki school of thought. Due to its importance, numerous commentaries have been written on it. Among these commentaries, and the most important, is the commentary by the scholar Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Nasir al-Din ibn Muhammad ibn Khalaf ibn Jibril al-Manufi al-Misri al-Shadhili, entitled: Kifayat al-Talib al-Rabbani. This is a marginal note by the accomplished scholar Ali ibn Ahmad al-Saidi.
Al-Adawi's commentary was sufficient and comprehensive, explaining everything a student needs and a scholar would seek. It was profound, containing insightful comments, explanations, and subtle points that only those with enlightened minds could grasp.
