This book is not merely a historical narrative of the lost jewel, or "Al-Andalus," but rather a scientific documentation of creative endeavors in natural sciences, literature, philosophy, astronomy, architecture, music, and the art of public taste, or "etiquette," in Al-Andalus. In addition to historical events and lessons, this book offers the reader anecdotes and information that they may encounter for the first time. We believe it is a cultural, historical, intellectual, and literary feast that adds a tangible effort to books on the history of Al-Andalus, offering something new in the form of analysis, understanding, and insights, which we hope we have successfully presented. Because history is a ray of light from the past illuminating the paths of the future, we present this book in which the reader will find a historical account of a flourishing past, an explanation of the experimental scientific method pioneered by Arabs, an exploration of the philosophical movement and the achievements of Ibn Rushd, and delight in the poems of Andalusian poets and their timeless muwashshahats. The reader will certainly appreciate the literature of "Ibn Abd Rabbih," the poetry of "Abu al-Baqa al-Rundi," and the genius of "Lisan al-Din Ibn al-Khatib." We hope to restore the importance of historical books and for our Egyptian people and all Arab peoples to realize the bright aspects of heritage, away from wars, bloodshed, political games, and sectarian conflicts.
