In these unstable conditions, Mr. Antonio Lopez faces a crisis from which he finds no way out. His close friend offers him a seeming salvation, but in essence, it is a plot against him. Amid the noise, the voices mingle, but there remains one voice that deserves attention. Will he respond to it or will he be carried away breathlessly, becoming like bells that no one hears? In the novel's atmosphere, we read that, in the middle of the nineteenth century, specifically in the year 1858, General Ramon Castilla's forces advanced to besiege the city of Arequipa in Peru, during the events of a conflict referred to as the "Ecuadorian-Peruvian War," turbulent events that resulted in a fierce civil war, which represented a pressure card for some parties, but was a lifeline for others.
