There is no town or village in Egypt stranger than the one located on the outskirts of Giza Governorate. Don't exhaust yourself trying to find information about it, as it is a town outside government records, outside all laws and knowledge. Bar El-Deif is a village that everyone has agreed to forget... even its own people. If circumstances force you to go to Bar El-Deif, you will find that reaching it is not easy at all. Although it is located directly on one of the branches of the Nile, it is hidden behind a forest of giant trees that do not give the impression that there is an entire village behind it. Even if you somehow manage to reach it, you will find that it does not welcome strangers. The people of Bar El-Deif are not known for the generosity and chivalry that rural areas are famous for. They have even designated a square halfway between their homes and the main road for buying and selling. It is a square no more than fifty meters in size, surrounded by a barbed wire fence and trees to prevent anyone from wandering freely into the surrounding mango gardens. Nests lined up as shops, and in the middle of them a ring of unfriendly vendors spread out on the ground. This has been the behavior of the villagers since time immemorial, but they have become increasingly isolated after the infamous incident that occurred there more than a quarter of a century ago. This was one of the reasons for Bar Al-Dhaif's unpopularity, and as a result, merchants rarely visited it, and in very small numbers. But Bar Al-Dhaif still exists, despite the scary stories, despite the self-isolation, despite everyone's disapproval.
