A short novel by the novelist Dostoyevsky, considered one of Dostoyevsky's profound works, as it tells the story of a young man, a minor employee, satisfied with his fate despite his small salary and weak condition. His boss assigned him a huge task, but he falls in love with an innocent girl and becomes preoccupied with his love, forgetting his work. The young man lives with his loyal friend, whom he loves passionately. The young man exaggerates his mistake in being late in delivering his work to his master, and considers that a crime against his benefactor. He exaggerates matters, becomes confused, and becomes extremely emotional, then falls to the brink of madness, thinking that they will lead him to military service as punishment.
