Mikhail Naimy

A collection of short stories, first published in 1956. As Naimy maintained in his narrative literature since his first short story "The Barren Woman" in 1914, it strives to be closely tied to people's lives. However, Naimy, a descendant of the Russian short story school since his studies as a youth in the land of the Tsars, does not remain in his stories, nor does he keep us out; rather, he takes us into the psychology of the human soul, allowing us to see it from within. To see people with all their thoughts, intentions, actions, and outcomes from within means that, having entered the intimacy of their beings, you are no longer a mere spectator of everything that happens, but rather, in a sense, a part of it and a participant in it. Thus, the story becomes not just the story of the individuals being narrated about, but also your cause, the reader or listener.
