This is the first book in the rhetorical studies of the Qur’anic style, and it was introduced by the doctor with the following introduction:

Praise be to Allah, who sent down the Book to His servant and made it free of any crookedness. And prayers and peace be upon the one who raised the banner of guidance, our master Muhammad, and upon his family and companions and those who call to his message. And now:

I used to hear people say: The Quran is miraculous, that it is the most sublime speech, and that it cannot be matched or equaled. If all of creation were to come together to say something like it, they would not be able to. I have read similar statements in many books. I used to see this as exaggeration and fanaticism, driven by those who said it out of their religious zeal and fanaticism for the faith they hold dear. I used to read many of the justifications that their owners used to prove the sublimity of this expression, such as the connection between the verses, the connection between the openings of the surahs and their endings, the connection between the surahs, the choice of words without their synonyms, and so on. I do not see them as scientific, and I find many of them forced. I used to say: If the expression were otherwise, they would have given a justification for it as well, because a person never lacks a justification for what he wants. However, with the passage of time and after I perused what I consider to be not a few books on language, interpretation, miracles, rhetoric, and the like - and that is due to my specialization - I began to tend toward believing this statement, as it became clear to me that a significant portion of what was written was written with a high scientific spirit, and that I still see much of what was written now as I saw it before.

Then I decided to study the Quranic text myself. I began to compare many verses in terms of similarity and difference in expression, precedence and delay, mention and omission, and other linguistic, rhetorical and semantic matters. I examined them carefully and was amazed by what I saw of precision in expression, mastery of art and excellence in craftsmanship. I found an intentional artistic expression in which every word, every letter, and even every vowel had been carefully considered.

The more I looked closely, examined and compared, the more I became certain and insightful. I arrived at a truth that is self-evident to me, which is that this Qur’an cannot possibly be the words of a human being, and that if all of creation, the first and the last of them, were to come together to do something like this, they would not be able to do it, nor would they come close to it.

I am not asking the reader to accept this truth, for that is a request that is not based on mere assertion or claim. Rather, I am asking him to cast off the cloak of fanaticism and look with an unbiased scientific spirit. I have no doubt that he will arrive at what I have arrived at.

It is true that many people are not familiar with the linguistic axioms and do not have knowledge of the rules of language and its secrets. It is difficult for these people to find their way to such areas without a guide who takes them by the hand, shows them the areas of art and beauty, enlightens them with the secrets of expression, and explains this to them with examples that they can understand and comprehend. I consider this book to be of this type. It is nothing but a guide that points to some areas of art and beauty and enlightens them with some of the secrets of expression.

I am not saying that I wrote the book out of fanaticism and passion, even though I imagine that I did. I do not assume that the reader will accept everything he finds in it, nor do I ask him to do so. Rather, I call on the reader to read with an open mind and an alert heart, and to be patient with matters of language that he has no previous knowledge of until he becomes aware of them. This is not a difficult matter.

I think that when he does that, he will see what we saw and end up with what we ended up with.

We ask God Almighty to inspire us to do what is right and to protect us from error. He is the All-Hearing, All-Answering.
