"This book represents a clear departure from historical reviews of relations between the two brotherly countries. It charts a serious path for contemplating potential future political and security rifts that evoke the Ba'athist-Assad legacy, and offers some proposals to avoid them. The author hopes for the realization of a different Syrian model that coexists with the faltering Lebanese model, and establishes a joint accountability for mutual transgressions, the latest of which is Hezbollah's Syrian transgression. He bets that the new rulers of Damascus will not replicate the experience of the Afghan Taliban movement, but will build their own Islamic experience, raising in this context the question of the conditions for the historical reconciliation sought between the two states since their separation - independence.
With this exploratory reading, the author looks at the future of two peoples between whom there are no drawn international borders, but rather "illegal crossings," imposed by nature... and separated by politics.

Sateh Noureddine - a veteran Lebanese journalist, who has accumulated over 45 years of experience in journalistic, political, and cultural writing; from being an editor at "As-Safir newspaper" until he took over its editorial management between 1990 and 2011.
